Carter Guthrie
She’s Unhappy, 2026

Mixed Media
14” x 15”

She’s Unhappy serves as a personal archaeology that combines the artist’s scanned journal entries with a collaged self-portrait of herself and her mother. Presented as an unavoidable confrontation with image and text, the artist traces a thought at its most vulnerable and flawed and follows it through its different shapes and phases. We are invited to permeate alongside them, moving through an intergenerational process of reconciliation, coping with the past as we cast out possible futures.
