Pushing the Frame: Willful Transgressions
March 8, 2026 — April 26, 2026

Michèle Saint-Michel is an artist and curator living in Brooklyn, NY. Her work explores power, feminist ecologies, and somatic memory through material processes that map emotion across time and space. Working across film, image, sound, movement, and artist books, Saint-Michel constructs affective cartographies—maps of sensation, intimacy, and embodied experience. A Map of All My Tender Places traces tenderness through Polaroid image-making and iterative reproduction, while her on-going project Soft Map of NYC extends this inquiry into civic space, mapping lived experience onto the city itself with 20+ NYC artists. Material instability and public infrastructure are recurring collaborators in her practice. Instant film, photocopy systems, and organic matter become tools for examining transmission, care, and the porous boundary between private feeling and shared environment.
